The American Lawyer Names Rebecca Monck Ricigliano a 2021 Northeast Trailblazer

New York – May 3, 2021: The American Lawyer named Rebecca Monck Ricigliano, a partner in Crowell & Moring’s New York office, to its inaugural list of Northeast Trailblazers. This list honors lawyers in the Northeast region of the U.S. who “have moved the needle in the legal industry and are agents of change, making significant marks on the practice, policy, and technological advancements in their sector.”

Ricigliano, a formal federal prosecutor, is a partner in the firm’s White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement Group and a member of its steering committee; she is also a member of the firm’s Financial Services and Investigations practices. Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, she served nearly a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. During her tenure, Ricigliano was a member of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and held various supervisory positions including Chief of the Narcotics Unit and Senior Trial Counsel in the Public Corruption Unit.

She went on to serve as the First Assistant Attorney General of New Jersey, supervising complex criminal investigations and prosecutions and affirmative Consumer Fraud and False Claims Act cases.

“When anyone tells me that something cannot be done, I do not take it at face value,” Ricigliano told The American Lawyer, when asked what has made her a trailblazer. “Both as a prosecutor and now as defense counsel, I challenge that notion by asking questions, understanding why that was the conclusion, and, most importantly, taking a step back to see if a simple (or sometimes complicated) solution has been overlooked.” The profile notes how this approach has been a force of change: “By not accepting something is impossible or too difficult to be done, you have the ability to make cases that others think are unattainable,” states Ricigliano.

Looking ahead, Ricigliano remarks, “Our world is increasingly more connected and more technologically advanced. Having the ability to challenge the way things have been done in the past…will continue to serve the legal profession well.”
