Crowell & Moring's Paul Rosen Recognized as Los Angeles Business Journal's Cyber Security Attorney of the Year and National Law Journal's Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer

Los Angeles – November 3, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Paul M. Rosen, a partner in the firm's White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement, Privacy & Cybersecurity, and Government Contracts groups, was recently named Cyber Security Attorney of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal and a Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Trailblazer by the National Law Journal.

Before joining Crowell & Moring earlier this year, Rosen held senior government positions at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, including as DHS Chief of Staff from 2015 to 2017. He was recognized by The Los Angeles Business Journal on October 30 for “overseeing and managing DHS’ response to some of the most sensitive and complex challenges facing the government.” In his profile, the publication notes that Rosen “worked closely with technology and social media companies to combat terrorist online recruitment efforts and use of encrypted communication platforms” and worked on some of “the most highly publicized global security and terrorist threats, including significant cybersecurity events” such as the hack of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and attacks on critical infrastructure. Rosen was recognized as part of the publication’s Leaders in Law Awards event, which honors lawyers who demonstrate exceptional legal skill and achievement, exemplary leadership, and contribution to the Los Angeles community. In its Trailblazer profile of Rosen that published this month, The National Law Journal highlighted Rosen’s government experience on cybercrime matters, including the prosecution of cybercriminals who profited from the major data breach against retailer Michaels and a 2015 agreement between China and the United States, which Rosen notes serves as “the first concrete agreement that neither government would support cybertheft.” The Trailblazers list honors lawyers who have “helped make a difference in the fight against criminal cyber activity and toward adding much needed layers of data security in an increasingly digital world of commerce.” The profiles of Rosen and the 24 other honorees can be viewed here.

Rosen, who joined the firm in May 2017, is also a former federal prosecutor with more than a decade of experience working across all three branches of the federal government. His other roles included Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Counselor at DHS as well as Chief of Staff at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In his four years at the Justice Department, Rosen was a Trial Attorney in the Criminal Fraud Section and a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. Before working in the Executive Branch, Rosen was Counsel to then-Senator Joseph R. Biden on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

At Crowell & Moring, Rosen represents corporate and individual clients in connection with white collar criminal defense and government investigations, cybersecurity matters, and crisis management.
