Washington, DC - January 20, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Los Angeles-based partner Janet Levine, chair of the firm's White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group, has been selected as chair-elect of the American Bar Association's (ABA) Criminal Justice Section. Levine succeeds Bryan Cave LLP partner James M. Cole, who has been appointed by President Obama as Deputy Attorney General. Levine has been identified by the ABA's Criminal Justice Section (CJS) Council to replace Cole once his appointment to Deputy Attorney General has been confirmed.
A highly acclaimed trial lawyer and appellate attorney, Levine has extensive experience in securities, health care and tax fraud matters, as well as local, federal and global corruption matters. Her clients are local, national, and international and include individuals, entities, and government organizations.
Levine was the Co-Chair of the White Collar Crime Committee of the ABA's Criminal Justice Section from 2007 to 2009, during which time she served on the Upjohn Advisory Group, which promulgated important standards regarding Upjohn warnings. Levine was then selected to join the Criminal Justice Section Council, the CJS's policy making and advisory board. In 2009, Levine received the ABA Criminal Justice Section's prestigious "Charles R. English Award" recognizing her outstanding trial work, leadership, and contributions to the Section's Upjohn Task Force, as well as her efforts to recruit young, minority and female lawyers to become actively involved in both the White Collar Crime Committee and the Section.
