Crowell & Moring's Janet Levine Named to National Law Journal’s White Collar Crime Trailblazers List
Washington, D.C. – January 6, 2016: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Janet Levine, a Los Angeles-based partner in the firm's White Collar Group and chair of the firm's Trial Practice, has been named to the National Law Journal's inaugural White Collar Crime "Trailblazers" list. The list features 50 attorneys who have made significant impacts in white collar criminal litigation and have demonstrated a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission over the course of their careers.
The National Law Journal recognized Levine's roles in high-profile matters, including defending a Lindsey Manufacturing Co. executive in a rare Foreign Corrupt Practices Act case, one of just a few to ever go to trial under the law. Levine accused the U.S. Department of Justice of prosecutorial misconduct, causing the court to lift charges against her client, who had been implicated in a cross-border conspiracy to bribe Mexican officials. The publication also noted her 2005 representation of Katrina Leung, an accused double agent, in a case that made international headlines and was dismissed when Levine was once again able to prove prosecutorial misconduct.
Looking ahead, Levine noted that future investigations and litigation brought by the government will likely become more complex, due to increasing internationalization of laws, and new types of evidence. She also stated that the amount of hard-fought white collar litigation is likely to increase, given the government's efforts to push individuals to self-report and inform on their officers, directors, and employees.
