Washington, D.C.– September 22, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that senior counsel and former Governor of Wyoming, David Freudenthal, was recognized by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar with a 2011 "Partners in Conservation Award." This honor acknowledges a commitment to advancing important conservation initiatives. The Washington, D.C-based awards ceremony was held on September 21, 2011 . in the Department of Interior's South Interior building auditorium.

Freudenthal was recognized for his work on the Sage-Grouse Implementation Team with current Wyoming Governor Matt Mead.. The group developed and implemented a long-term, science-based cooperative strategy for conservation of the greater sage-grouse, a ground-dwelling bird that inhabits much of the West. Their work has resulted in conservation and resource development options that currently conserve 1 million acres of sagebrush habitats in Wyoming.

"The Partners in Conservation Awards demonstrate that our nation's greatest conservation legacies often emerge when agencies and citizens from a wide range of backgrounds come together to address shared challenges," Secretary Salazar said in a statement. "I am pleased to recognize the efforts of dedicated people from across our nation to conserve and restore our treasured landscapes, address water issues and forge solutions to complex natural resource issues through good government and strong partnerships."

Composed of State and Federal agencies, natural resource development industries and non-governmental organizations, the Wyoming Governor's Sage-Grouse Implementation Team was instrumental in keeping the sage-grouse off of the endangered species list. In addition to conservation, the Team is allowing for energy development in Wyoming.
