Crowell & Moring Salutes the University of California’s Charlie Robinson at Directors Roundtable Event

San Francisco – March 12, 2021: Crowell & Moring honored Charles F. Robinson, general counsel of the University of California, at a March 11 event on the role of the nation’s university general counsel on influencing controversial and socially charged issues.

The event, produced by the Directors Roundtable, featured Michael A. Kahn, senior counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Litigation Group, who has advised Robinson on legal matters for more than three decades. During the question-and-answer portion of the event, Kahn and Robinson discussed how solving legal problems at an institution like the University of California requires additional considerations of public and government relations as the public perception of the institution has an impact on the handling of disputes.

Robinson assumed his role at the university in 2007. He oversees a legal department of approximately 113 attorneys throughout the state, providing legal advice to University of California leadership on every campus, as well as the Board of Regents and university president.

The firm has a longstanding relationship with the University of California, including endowing a diversity scholarship at the University of California, Irvine, representing the system in issues related to the Trump administration’s international student directive, and defending a flu vaccination requirement. Crowell & Moring attorneys also represented the University of California in a landmark case regarding the raid of an Alzheimer’s disease research program at UC San Diego by the University of Southern California, which ended with a financial settlement and public apology from USC.
