Crowell & Moring Rolls Out International Arbitration Practice
Washington, D.C. – Nov. 23, 2004: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the establishment of the International Arbitration practice group. The creation of the practice group reflects the success of the firm's experience handling complex arbitration matters for global clients.
"When the firm's extensive work in international disputes was considered, the establishment of a formal practice was the logical step," C&M Chairman John Macleod said, "and we are committed to fortifying the competencies we provide to institutions worldwide."
Spearheaded by Jane Wessel of the firm’s London office and Kathryn D. Kirmayer of the firm’s D.C. office, and drawing upon the expertise and experience of attorneys in all four of the firm’s offices in the U.S. and Europe, the team has experience in resolving international disputes in jurisdictions globally. They frequently assist clients with informal negotiations, working with them on mediations through JAMS/Endispute, CPR Center for Dispute Resolution and CEDR. The group has conducted arbitrations in the United States, Canada, England, France, India and Switzerland under the substantive laws of various states, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan and South Africa. Their experience includes arbitrations under the rules of the AAA, the ICC, ICSID the LCIA, the LMAA, ICSID, UNCITRAL: and NAFTA, as well as ad hoc arbitrations under U.S. law and the national laws of a variety of countries in Europe and Asia. Particular areas of subject matter expertise include complex construction project disputes, energy project disputes, intellectual property disputes, antitrust disputes, and large-scale commercial contract disputes.
Ms. Wessel is a counsel in the firm's London office and is co-chair of the firm’s International Arbitration practice. She is qualified to practice in both the US and in England and Wales, and specializes in international commercial arbitration and litigation, including choice of law, forum selection and alternative dispute resolution.
Ms. Kirmayer is a partner in the firm's Litigation group and co-chair of the firm's Commercial Litigation and Arbitration practice. She has extensive expertise in complex commercial litigation and arbitration, and has specialized experience in cases presenting technical and scientific issues.
