Crowell & Moring Partners Kyle W. Parker and Former Governor David Freudenthal Featured in National Law Journal's Energy and Environment Trailblazers & Pioneers
Washington, D.C. – April 30, 2015: Crowell & Moring is pleased to announce that Cheyenne-based partner and former Wyoming Governor David Freudenthal and Anchorage-based partner Kyle W. Parker, both in the firm's Environment & Natural Resources Group, have been profiled in the 2015 National Law Journal "Trailblazers & Pioneers: Energy and Environment" series. The publication pays tribute to some of the great minds impacting the crucial intersection of energy production and the environment.
The National Law Journal recognized Freudenthal for handling several environmental enforcement issues, including protection of wildlife, during his tenures as the former governor of Wyoming and as a U.S. attorney. As governor, Freudenthal created the first regulatory scheme for carbon capture and sequestration, and also developed a wildlife and national resources trust to provide state funds for the purchase of key properties for wildlife. He also led the state to adopt a plan for the conservation of the greater sage grouse, which is credited for saving approximately 500,000 acres of habitat. His full Traiblazer feature can be viewed here.
Parker earned his recognition as a trailblazer for his vast knowledge of Alaska's environmental and oil exploration regulations, which have broadened greatly since the 1989 Exxon Valdez Spill. Based on Parker's longtime experience visiting and living in the state, the publication notes, that he "has been able to help companies nationwide improve their permitting processes and better deal with regulators." Parker ensures that his team is working with the people writing regulatory permit applications, a strategy that he notes companies outside of Alaska are now using.
