Crowell & Moring Partner Jeffrey Rutherford Inducted into American College of Trial Lawyers

Los Angeles – March 7, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Los Angeles partner Jeffrey H. Rutherford has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. Rutherford was inducted at the ACTL 2017 spring meeting in Boca Raton, Fla., on March 4.

An experienced trial lawyer and head of Crowell & Moring’s Los Angeles office, Rutherford is the fourth firm partner to be inducted into the College. Other fellows from Crowell & Moring include Los Angeles partner Janet Levine, Washington, D.C., partner Richard Beizer, and retired Los Angeles partner John Vandevelde.

“On behalf of the firm, I am proud to congratulate Jeff on his induction into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers,” Crowell & Moring chair Angela B. Styles said. “Jeff’s induction reflects his enduring commitment to zealously representing clients with the highest professional standards. His accomplishments as an elite trial lawyer reflect the very best of Crowell & Moring.”

Rutherford focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, and civil and criminal jury trial work. He is a member of the White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group, and he is also active in the firm’s Health Care, Antitrust, and Government Contracts practices. Rutherford represents individuals and entities in high-stakes political corruption, criminal antitrust, health care fraud, money laundering/Bank Secrecy Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and civil and criminal False Claims Act/qui tam matters.

Rutherford is a past recipient of the Pro Bono Advocacy Award from the ACLU Foundation of Southern California and the President's Pro Bono Service Award from the State Bar of California for his work on fighting gender discrimination in local municipal sports and recreation programs. Before joining Crowell & Moring, Rutherford was a deputy federal public defender in the Central District of California and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Consuelo B. Marshall, U.S. District Judge, Central District of California.

According to the American College of Trial Lawyers, the organization was founded in 1950 and is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the college is extended by invitation only and only after careful investigation to those experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds, who have mastered the art of advocacy, and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for fellowship.

Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently approximately 5,800 members in the United States and Canada, including active fellows, emeritus fellows, judicial fellows (those who ascended to the bench after their inductions) and honorary fellows. The College maintains and seeks to improve the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice through education and public statements on important legal issues relating to its mission. The College strongly supports the independence of the judiciary, trial by jury, respect for the rule of law, access to justice, and fair and just representation of all parties to legal proceedings. The College is thus able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.

No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Bars of, or any courts in, the jurisdictions in which the lawyers are admitted to practice.
