Crowell & Moring Expands Government Affairs Team with Arrival of Senior Policy Director Traci Vitek

Brings health care legislative, legal experience from Health & Human Services,
House of Representatives

Washington – July 7, 2017: Crowell & Moring is pleased to announce that Traci Vitek, most recently a Congressional Affairs Advisor for the Department of Health & Human Service’s Office of the Inspector General, has joined the firm as a Senior Policy Director. She joins the Government Affairs Group that is headed by partner James G. Flood, former counsel to Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), and will work alongside senior policy director W. Scott Douglas, former finance director to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

Vitek brings more than a decade of experience in the health care government affairs arena, gained in the Executive Branch and on Capitol Hill as a policy staffer and advocate for health care interests. While at HHS, Vitek advised senior officials on pending legislation affecting the mission of the HHS Office of Inspector General. She also prepared position papers on legislative proposals (Medicare, Medicaid and FDA reform) and worked on many of the most important health care issues in Congress in the past several years. Additionally, at HHS, she served as a Legislative Detail to the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce, assisting the Committee in passing the 21st Century Cures Act on the House side.

In addition to her HHS experience, Vitek was a federal affairs lobbyist for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, where she managed a drug shortage coalition and developed and implemented the pain medicine legislative and regulatory agenda. She also served as Assistant Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for the College of American Pathologists, where she lobbied Congress on issues affecting the medical society’s legislative agenda. She was previously a government and regulatory affairs lawyer for Holland & Knight LLP; in that role, she represented health care clients before Congress, including legislation affecting Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and competitive bidding on diagnostic issues. From 2004 to 2005, she was legislative counsel for Georgia state senator Bill Hamrick.

“Traci brings extensive House E&C Committee and health care policy experience to Crowell & Moring at this critical time for our nation’s health care policy,” Flood said. “Her congressional and agency health care policy and legal experience will be a tremendous asset to our clients as they navigate this uncertain time in Washington.”

Vitek earned her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law and her B.A. from Indiana University. Her arrival comes early into Crowell & Moring’s Trump: The First Year series, which will follow key regulatory changes emerging from the White House and offer real-time updates and analyses for corporate counsel as developments unfold. As part of this series, the firm last month launched its “2017 Regulatory Forecast, Special Report: What Trump Means for Business,” with in-depth analysis on how the new administration, Congress and the courts are changing the regulatory landscape and affecting business. Flood and Douglas contributed to the report. For more information and to download a copy of the report, visit www.crowell.com/RegulatoryForecast.
