Crowell & Moring Elects Seven New Partners and Promotes Twelve Attorneys to Senior Counsel and Counsel Positions

Washington, D.C. – January 17, 2013: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce it has elected seven attorneys to the firm's partnership effective January 1, 2013. The firm has also promoted three attorneys to the position of senior counsel, and nine associates to the position of counsel. The new partners, senior counsel, and counsel have been promoted from within the ranks of the firm's Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Brussels, and London offices.

The newly elected partners are:

Daniel Cannistra is a member of the International Trade Group and resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on legislative, executive, and regulatory representation of domestic and international clients on a broad spectrum of international trade and customs matters. He has represented domestic and foreign companies in over 75 trade litigation cases in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Mr. Cannistra earned his B.A. from the State University of New York at Oswego, his M.A. at the State University of New York at Albany, and his J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law.

Peter J. Eyre is a member of the Government Contracts Group and is resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on a wide range of government counseling and litigation, including corporate compliance reviews, dispute resolution, bid protests, complex investigations of potential civil and criminal matters, GSA Schedule contracting, suspension and debarment proceedings, and mandatory disclosures. Eyre also serves as the coordinator of the Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative. Since 2000, he has served as senior advisor to the Commission on Presidential Debates. Eyre earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from Williams College and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

Shawn R. Johnson is a member of the Antitrust Group and resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Johnson's practice involves antitrust counseling on a wide variety of subjects, with particular focus on transactional antitrust matters such as mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, as well as issues related to compliance with the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act. He also regularly advises clients in connection with both grand jury and civil non-merger investigations. Johnson earned his B.A. from Boston College and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law.

Ian A. Laird is a D.C.-licensed Special Legal Consultant based in the firm's Washington office, and he is a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group. He has been counsel to parties in investment arbitrations for over fourteen years and worked on the earliest NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) investor-state arbitrations involving all three NAFTA state parties. He continues to be counsel on numerous investment treaty arbitrations and disputes, most recently involving El Salvador, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Turkey. Laird earned his B.A. from McGill University, his LL.B from the University of Windsor,  Faculty of Law, and his LL.M from the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Law.

Gerald F. Murphy is a member of the Aviation, Corporate, and Administrative Law/Regulatory practice groups in the firm's Washington D.C. office. Murphy's experience includes advising major U.S. and foreign airlines, manufacturers, service providers and industry trade associations on a wide range of aviation regulatory matters, transactions and disputes. He also represents clients in licensing, rulemaking and enforcement proceedings before the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, and Transportation Security Administration, and routinely advises on regulatory compliance requirements. Murphy earned his B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and his J.D. from the Catholic University of America.

Janine L. Scancarelli is a Litigation Group member in the firm's San Francisco office. Her practice focuses on class actions and other complex litigation, including the defense of matters involving unfair competition and antitrust claims. Before her law career, Scancarelli had a career in academia as a linguist and achieved tenure at the College of William & Mary. She earned her B.A. summa cum laude from Yale University, a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her J.D. with distinction from Stanford Law School.

Daniel W. Wolff is a member of the Environment & Natural Resources Group and is resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice extends broadly to appellate and trial litigation in a number of areas of environmental and natural resources law, including mine safety and health, public lands, and Superfund, as well as general litigation and administrative procedure. Wolff earned his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Dayton School of Law.

The firm's new senior counsel include: Glenn D. Grant, a member of the Labor and Employment Group; Barbara H. Ryland, a member of the Health Care Group; and Michael G. Van Arsdall, a member of the Antitrust Group. All are resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

Firm associates promoted to counsel are: Meriam Alrashid resident in Washington, D.C. and London; A. Xavier Baker, Jonathan M. Baker, Astor Heaven, Lucy Grace Noyola, James G. Peyster, Ashley R. Riveira, and  Allison Ullman in Washington, D.C.; and  Eric Montens in Brussels.
