Crowell & Moring Boosts Antitrust Litigation Practice in California
Washington, D.C. – March 28, 2012: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that John S. Gibson has joined the firm's Antitrust Group as a partner. Gibson is a skilled antitrust practitioner with extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, including trial and appellate work, as well as merger review and other high-stakes dealings with the federal and state antitrust enforcement agencies. He joins from Winston & Strawn LLP in Los Angeles, where he was one of the four partners who comprised the Global Steering Committee for that firm’s Antitrust Practice, and will be resident in Crowell & Moring’s Orange County office.
The arrival of Gibson, whose representative clients have included high-tech and life science companies in California and across the country, comes on the heels of the addition of complex litigator Steven D. Allison, who joined the Orange County office as a partner in February. The new additions in California are part of Crowell & Moring's ongoing and significant expansion nationally of the firm's litigation and trial prowess.
"Through his many successes in trial and appellate work, John has earned a reputation within the California tech community as a ‘go-to’ lawyer for resolving complex commercial and antitrust disputes. John bolsters our litigation and appellate team nationwide. His notable experience is a tremendous asset to our clients, and in particular complements the relationships our West Coast offices have with Orange County and Silicon Valley companies," said Daniel A. Sasse, Antitrust Group partner who heads the firm's Orange County office.
With over 20 years of experience working on complex civil litigation cases, Gibson has led numerous class action, antitrust, and unfair-competition engagements and achieved game-changing results for clients. His experience includes representing Fortune 500 companies, as well as start-ups, in the Internet, software, medical device, manufacturing, and financial services industries. His practice includes post-trial and appellate “rescue missions,” such as eliminating 95 percent of the largest antitrust jury verdict in the United States by taking over the case after trial.
“Crowell & Moring has a premier antitrust practice with a deep bench, nationally and internationally, and I am excited about becoming a part of this entrepreneurial team. The firm continues to expand its practice at the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust law, the new frontier for high-technology clients. The firm offers clients a wealth of knowledge, experience, and championship teamwork. These factors, combined with the firm’s growing presence in California, create a strong platform to represent clients fiercely and intelligently in their most important legal matters,” said Gibson.
In addition to private practice, Gibson serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Constitutional Rights Foundation. His significant pro bono victories include obtaining the first federal court order in the U.S. requiring a school district to accommodate the service dog of a student with autism. Gibson holds a J.D. from University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review, and an A.B. from Harvard College, where he was a John Harvard Scholar (top 5% of undergraduate students). After law school, he clerked for the Honorable John Feikens, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.
