Firm News | 2 min read | 12.17.04

Washington, D.C. – Dec. 17, 2004: Four lawyers from Crowell & Moring LLP were recently selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2005-2006 (Copyright 2004 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, S.C.).

Recognized are Richard L. Beizer, Criminal Defense; Robert A. Lipstein, Antitrust Law, General Corporate Law and International Trade and Finance Law; R. Timothy McCrum, Natural Resources Law; and Steven P. Quarles, Natural Resources Law.

C&M Chairman John Macleod is delighted to be informed of the selections. "The entire C&M family extends our warmest congratulations to these gentlemen on being featured in Best Lawyers. The legal community's respect for these attorneys and the firm resonates in such accomplishments, and I commend them."

Mr. Beizer devotes most of his time to the defense of companies and individuals involved in an array of white collar criminal grand jury investigations and trials. He also defends companies and individuals accused of civil violations of the False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. § 3729 et seq., litigates complex commercial disputes, and conducts internal corporate compliance investigations.

Mr. Lipstein is a partner in the firm's Antitrust, International Trade, and Intellectual Property groups. Mr. Lipstein counsels clients on all aspects of antitrust and trade regulation issues, with particular expertise on distribution and price discrimination issues. He is the architect of distributor and dealer agreements that have become the standards in several industries, and has assisted companies to establish and enforce Minimum Advertised Price and Minimum Retail Price programs.

Mr. McCrum is a partner specializing in natural resources and environmental law, and he is the vice chairman of the firm’s Natural Resources and Environmental group. He has experience with a wide variety of issues involving litigation, legislation, rulemaking, negotiation, and counseling.

Mr. Quarles is chairman of the Natural Resources and Environmental Law group. His practice includes counseling, litigation and legislative representation for a wide range of forest products, mining, agricultural and land development associations and companies, and state and local governments. He addresses issues concerning wildlife and endangered species, federal lands and water and air pollution.

The 2005-2006 edition is the eleventh edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which 16,000 leading attorneys throughout the country cast more than a half million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be
listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”
