ONC May Expand Role By Directly Reviewing Health IT, Publicizing Results

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology proposes to take on a new role of directly reviewing certified health IT and testing labs, and says it plans to make results of surveillance of electronic health records publicly available. Reviews would focus on situations posing health or safety risks, and depending on the findings the office says it could require corrective action or suspend or terminate certification for an electronic health record or a health IT module.
