ABA - The NIST Cybersecurity Framework
March 10, 2014
Washington, DC or Teleconference
On February 12, 2014, NIST released the final Cybersecurity Framework developed in accordance with Executive Order 13636, "Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity." The Executive Order called upon NIST to collaborate with industry to develop a voluntary risk-based cybersecurity framework that is "prioritized, flexible, repeatable, performance-based and costeffective." The February release comes after a multi-step development process during which NIST issued multiple drafts of the Framework, held five discussion workshops, participated in numerous informal feedback sessions, and reviewed over 200 public comments received in response to an October 29 Preliminary Draft Framework.
The panel discussion examines the most recent iteration of the Framework, including:
- The key themes and concerns raised by industry stakeholders during the public comment process, and whether and how NIST addressed industry’s comments and concerns in the final version.
- Specific concerns regarding implementation of the Framework.
- Suggestions for continued integration of new standards, guidelines, and practices as they become available.
- Predictions for the path forward after February Release of the Framework
