We began working with Southwestern Bell (SBC) over 20 years ago. Since then, our ongoing challenge has been to forge a relationship that can withstand the test of time as it weathers historic shifts in technology, competition, the economy and the telecom industry itself.

Delve deeply into their business from Day One and continuously find creative ways to improve it. For example, we helped SBC acquire Pac Bell, Ameritech, and Southern New England Telephone. We helped them form Cingular with Bell South and then complete a truly national wireless network by acquiring AT&T Wireless in the largest cash tender offer at the time—$40 billion. In 2005, SBC acquired former parent AT&T Corporation. For the now rebranded AT&T, we went on to help acquire Bell South in 2006—an $86 billion deal.
