Timothy (Ty) Carson is an associate in the firm's Washington, DC office. He is a member of the Antitrust Group and the E-Discovery and Information Management Group. Ty's antitrust practice focuses on the counseling and representation of clients in both litigations and transactions. He also has advised clients in connection with both grand jury and civil non-merger investigations. Recent antitrust matters include:
- Representing United Technologies in its acquisition of Goodrich.
- Representing Fletcher Allen Partners in its proposed affiliation with Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center and Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
- Class action treble damages antitrust cases involving AT&T's iPhone.
- Representing AT&T in its acquisition of Centennial Communications.
- Representing DuPont in its acquisitions of MECS and Danisco.
- Representing Coventry Health Care in its acquisitions of Preferred Health Systems and Mercy Health Plans.
- Representing Reed Elsevier Group in its acquisition of ChoicePoint.
- Representing Reed Elsevier Group in its divestiture of Harcourt Education Group.
- Numerous counseling matters relating to compliance with the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act.
- Representing major health insurer before state AG in investigation of insurer's compliance with final judgment.
- Representing importer in DOJ investigation of alleged international cartel activity.
- Counseling clients on antitrust compliance related to the structuring of complex distribution systems to mitigate risk surrounding horizontal and vertical issues, including resale price maintenance and price discrimination.
In the E-Discovery and Information Management practice Group, Ty has counseled numerous clients on e-discovery issues and has negotiated with government agencies concerning the preservation, processing, and production of electronically stored information.
Ty's antitrust and e-discovery work has spanned numerous industries including aerospace, agriculture, biotechnology, health care, manufacturing, publishing, and telecommunications, including counseling of trade associations and farmer cooperatives. He has handled matters before the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and various state agencies.
Ty received a B.S., cum laude, in Business Administration in 2002 from Towson University. In 2007, he earned his J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law, where he was a member of the American University International Law Review.
