Crowell & Moring’s New York office, which opened in September 2006, was created to expand some of the firm’s marquee practice groups, such as the Litigation, Intellectual Property, Corporate/ Securities, Financial Services and Labor & Employment Groups. The growing office allows the firm to help serve clients more efficiently and effectively with their needs in New York.

Litigation
Litigation is the cornerstone of Crowell & Moring’s practice; we serve an international client base of Fortune 1000 companies and other organizations on regulatory, strategic counseling and litigation concerns. Crowell & Moring litigators are experienced trial lawyers who have won cases in state and federal courts as well as arbitral fora in the United States and abroad. We have also won cases before administrative boards that regulate industry. Our team’s significant courtroom experience complements our practice and provides new depth and resources for high-stakes litigation matters.

Intellectual Property
The firm’s nationally ranked intellectual property practice is increasing momentum in New York through the addition of experienced lawyers who offer significant litigation, counseling and procurement experience. We have a diverse team of counselors and professionals who can offer clients the benefit of our collective experience in handling all aspects of their intellectual property needs while drawing upon the strengths of the greater firm. Our intellectual property attorneys have extensive experience in the patent field in a wide array of technologies, as well as trademark, trade secret and copyright fields. Our practice includes litigation in the federal courts and in proceedings before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and International Trade Commission, representing numerous United States and foreign clients, such as DuPont, a long-standing Crowell & Moring client.

Corporate/Securities
The corporate/securities practice handles an array of projects including fund formation advice, private equity transactions, securities flotation (debt and equity, public and private), mergers and acquisitions and related matters. Our lawyers have advised issuers, underwriters and dealers on compliance with the federal securities laws, including Sarbanes-Oxley advice and have represented them in public offerings and Rule 144A placements. We also regularly advise, and negotiate on behalf of, investors, sponsors and selling shareholders in private equity transactions. We represent large institutional investors as they negotiate board representation and we help structure and negotiate trades on their behalf and assure compliance with applicable securities laws. We assist with the structuring of private equity and hedge funds ensuring compliance with and/or exemption from the applicable statutes. We also have significant experience with cross-border work and have assisted foreign issuers seeking US registration (or exemption from registration) as well as a wide array of other corporate finance transactions.

Financial Services
Our financial services attorneys offer an extensive scope of services in a variety of areas, including commercial lending, structured finance, real estate finance, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and financial institutions litigation. The practice spans a broad range of business sectors, including banking, manufacturing, real estate, utilities, environmental, construction, communications, insurance and not-for-profit corporations.

Labor & Employment
Our labor & employment practice has been significantly strengthened by the capabilities of the New York attorneys. The group provides a full range of management-side labor and employment services including: class action and individual labor and employment litigation in federal and state courts and before administrative bodies, strategic labor and employment law advice in the context of acquisitions or mergers, affirmative action compliance and related statistical analyses of employment practices, ERISA litigation and counseling, advice on international employment law issues, employment practice audits, and wage and hour class action litigation. The group boasts a preeminent traditional labor law practice, providing solutions for the full spectrum of labor relations problems, including union organizing and “corporate” campaigns, unfair labor practice litigation, and collective bargaining under the National Labor Relations Act and Railway Labor Act. We also conduct training programs for management and employees in various areas of labor and employment law.
