Overview

Valerie M. Goo is an experienced trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience and the managing partner of Crowell & Moring's Los Angeles office. She has tried numerous cases in federal and state courts across the country in the areas of complex commercial litigation, trademark infringement, unfair competition, trade secrets, false advertising, and consumer class action. Valerie routinely litigates cases for technology companies, including disputes over development and supply agreements.

Valerie has extensive experience handling intellectual property, complex commercial litigation, and class action disputes. She has litigated and tried cases involving trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity, unfair competition, false advertising, and consumer class actions, as well as general business and complex commercial litigation matters, including fraud, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty.  

Valerie has successfully obtained and defended against temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions in intellectual property, trade secret misappropriation, and commercial litigation matters. In addition, Valerie has state and federal appellate experience, including oral argument before the Ninth Circuit, and also has experience in trademark prosecution and enforcement.

  • Representing an aviation industry client in a complex trade secrets case involving the development of hardware and software for avionics display units. 
  • Obtained unanimous defense verdict in consumer class action after two-week jury trial in federal court on behalf of the world’s leading manufacturer of homeopathic drugs. Plaintiff brought claims on behalf of a class of consumers alleging false advertising under California’s Unfair Competition Law (Section 17200) and Consumer Legal Remedies Act.  (Selected as one of the California Daily Journal’s 2016 Defense Verdicts of the Year)
  • Obtained temporary restraining order, and preliminary and permanent injunctions, on behalf of national financial institution against former employees in trade secrets misappropriation case.
  • Defended major television distributor in jury trial brought by a premier pay television network in complex commercial litigation matter in Colorado state court which resulted in extremely favorable settlement mid-trial.
  • Recovered millions of dollars for stock photography company in copyright and trademark litigation matters.
  • Successfully defended online advertising company in multiweek jury trial in federal court in trademark, copyright, and trade dress infringement case.
  • Recovered millions of dollars in trade secrets misappropriation case on behalf of engine-part manufacturing company.  The case settled after three weeks of binding arbitration.
  • Defeated two separate preliminary injunctions brought by major television network and movie studio against satellite television distributor in cases involving tortious interference and copyright infringement.
  • Won dismissal of nationwide class action brought against major food retailer.
  • Won summary judgment on behalf of manufacturing company in trade secrets litigation.
  • Obtained preliminary injunction on behalf of aviation manufacturer in trademark infringement litigation.
  • Represented technology companies, retailers, and supplement manufacturers in all stages of consumer class action litigation.
  • Obtained successful settlement in consumer class action case brought against an internet company.
