Michael J. Lightfoot is a partner in Crowell & Moring's Los Angeles offiice. He specializes in white-collar criminal defense, civil rights cases, and trial and appellate litigation.

Mr. Lightfoot has been a full-time litigator since 1985. He served three terms as a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, several years as the Chairperson of the Central District of California's Magistrate Judge Selection Committee, as a member of the California Judicial Nominees Selection Committee, and as a member of the Ninth Circuit Advisory Rules Committee. He was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Appellate Project. He is also a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Mr. Lightfoot received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1964. After law school, he worked as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Then, in 1968, he joined the United States Attorney's Office in Los Angeles. Three years later, Mr. Lightfoot left the United States Attorney's Office to join the newly formed Federal Public Defender's Office in Los Angeles, where he was later named Chief Trial Deputy.

Mr. Lightfoot joined the full-time faculty at Loyola Law School in 1973 and remained there for twelve years, teaching criminal law and procedure, evidence, ethics, appellate advocacy, and trial advocacy. From 1985 to 1988, he was on Loyola's adjunct faculty. He formerly served as the Chairperson of the Board of Regents of Loyola Marymount University.

Before joining Crowell & Moring, Mr. Lightfoot was a partner in the Los Angeles firm Lightfoot Vandevelde Sadowsky Crouchley Rutherford & Levine LLP.
