Matthew P. Jaffe is a senior counsel in the International Trade practice and Product Risk Management practice groups in the firm's Washington D.C. office. He joined the firm in 2003.

International Trade
Matthew has participated in a number of antidumping and countervailing duty cases. He has helped U.S. chemical producers and U.S. hand truck manufacturers in petitioning for trade remedies. He has also helped a U.S. white good producer, a Japanese/U.S. bearing producer, and Mexican tomato growers in defending against trade remedy actions. Matthew has also participated in section 201, section 301 and section 337 cases, and appeared before two GATT Panels and a Binational Panel under the U.S.-Canada Free-Trade Agreement. Finally, Matthew has worked on issues involving U.S. customs law and export regulations.

Product Risk Management
Matthew works on issues concerning the regulatory control of nanoscale materials. He is one of the founders of the GoodNanoGuide, an Internet collaboration platform designed to enhance the ability of experts to exchange ideas on how best to handle nanomaterials in an occupational setting. His special interests include the development of international, national and state frameworks for the risk governance of nanomaterials. Matthew is also active in the USCIB's Nanotechnology Working Group and, through the USCIB, is a BIAC representative to the OECD's Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials. Finally, Matthew is developing an expertise in food safety law as it relates to the FDA's growing regulatory jurisdiction over this area.

Matthew began his legal career at the United States Senate. He first worked as staff counsel to a select committee assigned the task of analyzing law enforcement undercover operations (specifically, "Abscam"), then became special counsel to the Senate Rules Committee regarding a dispute before the International Labour Organization. After completing his Senate staff assignment, Matthew became a staff attorney first with the U.S. International Trade Commission (Office of the Administrative Law Judges), then with the U.S. Department of Commerce (Office of the Chief Counsel for Import Administration), before entering private practice.
