Emmanuel Plasschaert is a counsel in the Brussels office.
In addition to Mr. Plasschaert's solid understanding of general commercial and contract law, he is focused on individual and collective labor law. He has experience drafting employment and related service agreements, non-compete agreements and work regulations, as well as internal company policies. He also assists companies to draft or review incentive or bonus plans. He frequently gives advice to his clients regarding work organization issues, harassment, discrimination, restructuring of companies, collective labor issues (union delegations, works councils), and Belgian and EU social security issues. He also assists employers on termination of employment agreements.
In addition to regularly advising Belgian and multinational companies in these areas, Mr. Plasschaert also has comprehensive experience as a litigator, representing Belgian and multinational companies before the Belgian labor courts for more than 15 years.
Mr. Plasschaert studied for two years at the Catholic University of Namur (1989, jur. cand., cum laude) and earned his law degree at the law faculty of the Catholic University of Leuven (1992, jur. lic., cum laude). He spent six months at the University of Siena (Italy) in 1992, in the framework of the Erasmus exchange program. He has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 1993.
Mr. Plasschaert is fluent in French, Dutch and English. He has basic notions of Italian.
Mr. Plasschaert has published several articles in labor law journals. He has recently published a reference work on union delegations and is currently preparing a publication regarding collective labor agreements to be published by Kluwer.
Mr. Plasschaert is a member of the editing board of “Chroniques du droit social”, one of the leading labor law journals in Belgium and in charge of the individual labor law practice group of this law journal. He was a guest-lecturer at the Institut Supérieur Economique d’Ixelles, where he taught social legislation.
He frequently conducts seminars for executives and company managers.
