Emmanuel Gybels is the managing partner of the firm's Brussels office. He focuses on commercial and corporate law matters and dispute resolution.
Mr. Gybels was admitted to the Brussels bar in 1988, after obtaining a law degree from the Catholic University of Leuven and a DES en droit Economique (Economic Law) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Mr. Gybels advises national and multinational companies on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and due diligence investigations, with a focus on industry sectors where intellectual property plays a significant role.
He regularly assists companies in establishing, monitoring and restructuring their European presence. He hereby advises on a wide variety of commercial matters, distribution strategies, contract drafting and negotiations
As a member of the firm's Product Risk Management team, and chair of its international focus group, he advises corporations on the legislation, including product recalls, applicable to their products when put on the EU market and on issues regarding the access to that market.
Emmanuel is an active litigator on corporate and commercial matters. He represents clients in front of all Belgian jurisdictions, the ECJ, and various arbitration forums such as Cepina, the ICC, the SCC and ad hoc tribunals. He is a member, and appointed arbitrator, of Cepina and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).
He is a member of the corporate and new technologies committees of the AIJA and regularly speaks at conferences and professional education seminars relating to the transactional and contractual aspects of new technologies. He has published various articles on fair trade practice, e-business related issues and new litigation techniques.
