International Energy Law - Mexican Pipeline Projects

We are counsel on two substantial natural gas pipeline projects in southern Mexico, which are being undertaken by a consortium of a US natural gas transportation company, a US natural gas distribution company, and a Mexican construction company. Our work on these projects began at the conceptual business development stages and includes all elements of project development, permitting, and execution. We have advised on the appropriate organizational and corporate structures for the project sponsors, including governance of the venture, capital calls, and pricing of transportation services, and negotiation and preparation of drafts of contracts for purchase and sale of the gas, as well as contracts for the transportation service and financing arrangements, and general terms and conditions for the provision of transportation service.

We have also advised a large international oil and gas company as to its application for a natural gas transportation permit in connection with another very substantial pipeline project on the Yucatan Peninsula. This work included the preparation of revenue requirements, rate structures, general terms and conditions for the provision of service, cost justifications, and conformance with bid and other regulatory requirements
