International Energy Law - Guatemala/Mexico Pipeline
We were retained by the World Bank to provide advice to the Guatemalan government with respect to the development of a 400 to 550 mile (depending upon the route) gas pipeline from southern Mexico to Guatemala. The fundamental legal issues concerned:
- establishing the terms and conditions of a bilateral agreement between Guatemala and Mexico that is sufficiently secure so as to reduce country risk and attract private sector interest in the project
- developing a gas pipeline legal framework in Guatemala that, likewise, facilitates private sector interest in the project.
