Los Angeles – November 11, 2020: The Daily Journal has named partner Jennifer S. Romano to its 2020 list of “Top Women Lawyers.” The series recognizes the successes and victories of women lawyers in the court room and at the negotiating table, as well as their advancements in the legal industry. Romano serves as co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Litigation Group and is a member of the firm’s Management Board.

The Daily Journal highlighted Romano’s role representing the University of California in a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security over its international student directive that would have forced international students to leave the United States if their enrollment was limited to just only online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Romano and the firm worked on a pro bono basis with UC to file a lawsuit against the federal government and motion for injunctive relief, joining other universities making similar moves. As a result, the Department of Homeland Security reversed its directive.

The publication also noted Romano’s extensive experience defending healthcare companies against class action suits, including one in which 9,000 retired employees sough restoration of benefits after a new entity replaced their former employer. Romano led negotiations resulting in an eight-figure settlement that will be active for more than 20 years.

Romano was also honored for her work outside of the courtroom. She previously served as president of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and dedicates her time to mentoring young lawyers, particularly women, in the firm.
