Law360 Names Crowell & Moring's Government Contracts Group a "Practice Group of the Year" for the Ninth Consecutive Year

Washington – February 22, 2019: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that its Government Contracts Group has been recognized as one of Law360’s “Practice Groups of the Year” for government contracts. This is the ninth consecutive year that the group has earned this honor.

“We are proud to earn this recognition again from Law360,” said Daniel R. Forman, co-chair of the firm’s Government Contracts Group. “We are always striving to innovate how we partner with our clients to help them achieve their goals, and we were fortunate to have great successes with them in 2018.”

Law360 featured the group’s work over the past year, noting its active bid protest docket as well as its handling of a set of high-profile cases related to risk corridors and cost-sharing reduction payments owed to insurers under the Affordable Care Act, with claims collectively worth billions of dollars. A Court of Federal Claims judge found this fall that the government owed Crowell & Moring’s clients, Sanford Health Plan and Montana Health, millions in Affordable Care Act cost-sharing reduction payments, the first such ruling. Forman noted that the ACA recovery cases are an example of helping in-house legal departments become “profit centers instead of cost centers through creative recovery type actions.”

The group also recently secured a pair of high-profile wins for longtime client Lockheed Martin: a bid protest victory in which Raytheon Co. challenged a multi-billion dollar award for a U.S. Army training simulator maintenance contract, and a successful appeal of a $24 million claim made by the federal government.

The Government Contracts Group also handled investigations, disclosures, and debarment matters involving major contractors. “Many of these matters were addressed and resolved confidentially,” said Peter J. Eyre, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Government Contracts Group. "In addition to the client successes that are well known, there are many matters that no one will ever read about. Our clients view that ability and track record as a critically important part of our practice."
