The publication also singled outJuan Arteaga for co-leading efforts on behalf of Novant Health as it seeks to secure approval of its purchase of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

In Washington, the publication spotlighted Shawn Johnson, co-chair of the group, for his work advising United Technologies in connection with its $135 billion acquisition of Raytheon, the largest aerospace and defense deal in history. Other group members who worked on that deal included partner Wm. Randolph Smith and counsel Megan Wolf. The editors also noted D.C.-based partners Kent Gardiner and Luke van Houwelingen, who represent CSX Transportation in consolidated multi-district litigation alleging that it and three other major U.S. freight railroads conspired to fix fuel surcharge prices. The firm is also acting for United Airlines in the Domestic Airline Travel antitrust litigation, which involves allegations that major airlines colluded to restrict the capacity of domestic air transportation.

The firm’s work in California was also recognized, including co-chair of the group Jason Murray, who defended the City of Los Angeles and the Port of Los Angeles in a federal antitrust suit that was successfully dismissed with prejudice. Chahira Solh, managing partner of the firm’s Orange County office, was also singled out for her representation of Siemens Mobility in a lawsuit against Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies. Other significant work completed by the group in California include matters for Cardinal Health, KOA, and Kaiser Health.

In Belgium, the publication noted the arrival of Luc Machtelinckx, a senior counsel from Telenet where he served as general counsel. The publication noted that the firm advised the broadband provider on its acquisition of sole control over De Vijver Media, which the BCA conditionally cleared in May 2019.
