Crowell & Moring Partners Scott Winkelman, John Gibson, and Rebecca Chaney Honored with Burton Awards' 'Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award'

Washington – March 12, 2019: The Burton Awards committee of judges has awarded Crowell & Moring LLP partners Scott L. Winkelman, John S. Gibson, and Rebecca Baden Chaney, along with HP, Inc. division counsel Jennifer A. Prioleau, its “2019 Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award” for an article entitled “Seven Ways to Prepare Your Legal Department for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” published in ACC Docket. The award honors exceptional legal writing and recognizes 30 articles from entries submitted by the nation's 1,000 largest law firms.

Following the launch of the firm’s Digital Transformation practice, Crowell & Moring’s 3D Printing team partnered with client HP to co-author the feature article. Using the firm’s collaboration with HP to advance 3D printing technology as an example, the article takes an in-depth look at regulatory, policy, and business strategies that legal departments should implement to navigate the quickly moving digital transformation—and taking steps beyond conventional legal analysis in this new frontier. The authors note, “Like all revolutions, this one will have leaders. And the leaders will be found among those who think differently and manage to see beyond their customary vision.”

Winkelman chairs the firm’s mass tort, product, and consumer litigation group and is also a member of the firm’s management board. He litigates class actions, multidistrict proceedings, arbitrations, and other complex litigation in products and commercial matters nationwide. Gibson is a trial lawyer, litigator, and thought leader, partnering with clients to help them create — and protect themselves within — digital transformation ecosystems like 3D printing, and is also a member of the firm’s management board. Chaney has a national practice defending clients in complex product litigation, with experience in commercial matters, consumer class action, and mass action proceedings. She also advises clients in product regulatory matters, including on the regulatory regimes applicable to 3D printing. Prioleau is division counsel for HP, based in New York City, and serves as lead counsel to HP’s 3D Printing business group.

The Burton Awards is a nonprofit program dedicated to rewarding great achievements in law, which is run in association with the Library of Congress, presented by lead sponsor Law360, and co-sponsored by the American Bar Association. The award winners are selected by judges and law school professors, including professors from Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, and UC Berkeley Law School. The full list of winners can be found here, and will be honored at a ceremony in Washington in May.

No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Bars of, or any courts in, the jurisdictions in which the lawyers are admitted to practice.
