Crowell & Moring Diversity Scholarship

Every year, Crowell & Moring awards three one-time scholarships, with one award of $10,000, and two awards of $7,500, to deserving racially or ethnically diverse students currently enrolled at an accredited law school located in the District of Columbia. The purpose of the program is to promote greater diversity within the profession, particularly from underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities, and to help potential leaders of the profession from such diverse backgrounds afford a legal education.

As reflected in its commitment to diversity, one of the foundations upon which Crowell & Moring was built is the appreciation that our success as a firm and our well-being as a community depend upon creating and maintaining a diverse team of talented professionals. We value individual differences and recognize that the vitality of our culture is in large measure a function of the very different perspectives, histories, and experiences that our individual lawyers and staff bring to the firm. At the same time, the Firm recognizes that the legal profession as a whole is not as diverse as it should be, particularly with respect to underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities.

The application form sets forth in detail the eligibility requirements and selection criteria for the Scholarship Program, and should be reviewed carefully. Generally speaking, to be eligible to receive a scholarship, an applicant must be a racially or ethnically diverse student currently enrolled and pursuing a J.D. degree at an accredited law school located in the District of Columbia, and have overcome significant obstacles, disadvantages, or challenges in his/her pursuit of a legal education. Students who are immediate family members of a Crowell & Moring attorney or employee and/or are a Firm client or an employee of a firm client are ineligible to receive a scholarship.

Crowell & Moring will select the three scholarship winners in the first quarter of 2008. To view the 2007 scholarship application form, please click here. The deadline for submission is December 15, 2007.

In addition to the eligibility requirements, the selection criteria include: exceptional academic performance; demonstrated leadership skills; relevant work experience; community service; special accomplishments and honors; and unmet financial need.
