Crowell & Moring Partner Andrew H. Marks to Receive Honors From American Jewish Committee and Legal Aid Society
Attorney Recognized for Longstanding Commitment to Public Service
Washington, D.C. – April 12, 2005: Crowell & Moring partner Andrew H. Marks will be honored by two leading Washington organizations for his professional achievements and dedication to community service this month. Marks will receive the American Jewish Committee's 2005 Judge Learned Hand Award and will be the second Crowell & Moring partner since 1990 to receive the Servant of Justice Award from the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia.
Commenting on the honors, American Jewish Committee President Peter R. Rosenblatt said, “Andy has harnessed the talents he uses as a litigator to champion the issues of concern to the Washington legal community and those it serves. He helps set a standard for professionals who realize their duties go beyond the office door.”
Marks is a past president of the District of Columbia Bar, the nation's second largest state bar association, and is the immediate past president of the District of Columbia Bar Foundation. He is a former general counsel to the Bar and served two terms on the Bar's Board of Governors. In addition to his leadership roles in the Bar, Marks helped pave the way to establish the District of Columbia Access to Justice Commission, which was recently c reated by the D.C. Court of Appeals to address the needs of district low-income residents for civil legal services.

The American Jewish Committee's Judge Learned Hand Award was established in honor of the senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1924 to 1951. It is presented to a leader in the legal profession who demonstrates dedication to the American legal tradition and the spirit of civic activism. The group will hold a luncheon in Marks' honor on April 12 at the Ritz Carlton in Washington.
The Legal Aid Society's Servant of Justice Award has been given annually since 1990 to honorees who have demonstrated faithful dedication and remarkable achievement in ensuring that all persons have equal and meaningful access to justice in Washington. The Legal Aid Society will recognize Marks on April 21 at its 16th Annual Servant of Justice Awards Dinner at The Capital Hilton.
Marks is a partner in Crowell & Moring's Litigation Group and co-chairs the Group's Commercial Disputes/Arbitration Team. He graduated from Harvard University in 1973 and the University of Michigan Law School in 1976. He is a native of Miami and has lived in Washington since graduating from law school.
